Edgewater Wireless Applauds IEEE Research Paper: The Effects of Channel Bonding on Spectrum Utilization

OTTAWA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. (YFI; TSX.V) (OTCQB: KPIFF), the developer of WiFi3™ ultra-wideband, concurrent multi-channel WiFi chipsets, modular circuit cards, station units and access point products for high-density/high-interference wireless networks made to meet the challenge of large retailers, enterprise, hospitality and event venues, today highlights the important findings outlined in the research paper: IEEE 802.11ac: Effect of channel bonding on spectrum utilization in dense environmentsThe paper is authored by Yousri Daldoul, Djamal-Eddine Meddour and Adlen Ksentini.

This IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) paper is a must-read for all WiFi experts, and is going to change the conversation regarding what is the most efficient use of WiFi spectrum in high density environments. This groundbreaking work by the IEEE lends credence to the spectral efficiency of Edgewater Wireless’ WiFi3 technology in high density WiFi networks.

Key Findings from the IEEE paper include:

  • 8 x 20 MHz channels may offer 252 Mbps compared to only 51 Mbps in a 160 MHz channel.
  • It is more appropriate, in dense WiFi environments, to separate the available WLANs into narrow channels in-order-to reduce the collisions
  • A spectrum without channel bonding (only 20 MHz channels) may provide 500% the achieved throughput when using the 160 MHz bonding
  • In dense WLAN deployment, many networks may need to share the same wide channel, leading to increase the contention on the medium access, and hence increasing the collisions rate.
  • When the number of WiFi stations increases, all the 20 MHz channels become used, and their aggregated throughput exceeds that of the 160 MHz channel.

“Edgewater Wireless applauds the research conducted by Mr. Daldoul, Mr. Meddour and Mr. Ksentini. Their findings parallel the overwhelming benefits of Edgewater’s multi-channel single radio WiFi technology,” said Eric Smith, VP of Product with Edgewater Wireless “The advantages of multiple, concurrent channels of transmit and receive in high density WiFi deployments are something we have consistently demonstrated with our WiFI3 technology.”

According to the Global Web Index – the average digital consumer has 3.64 WiFi-enabled devices; – smart phones, tablets and laptops – more devices per user is creating massive demand for data and connectivity mainly due to high-bandwidth data applications like video or latency sensitive services such as voice over WiFi (VoWiFI). Edgewater’s multi-channel WiFi3 AP architecture provides the highest possible WiFi system performance and highest channel density in wireless today.

“We believe multi-channel will offer the highest channel densification in wireless. WiFi, IOT and 5G rely, all or in part, on the unlicensed spectrum. If we have learned anything from the evolution of WiFi, we understand that better RF management will reduce interference and contention while boosting wireless performance,” said Andrew Skafel, President & CEO of Edgewater Wireless. “Our WiFi3 architecture; chipsets and radio cards are available today for select OEM and ODM partners to benefit from the performance gains and advantages only available with our multi-channel single radio technology.

The IEEE is the world's largest association of technical professionals with more than 420,000 members in over 160 countries around the world. Its objectives are the educational and technical advancement of electrical and electronic engineeringtelecommunicationscomputer engineering and allied disciplines.

Backed by 24 patents, Edgewater’s WiFi3™ is the best solution for in high-density WiFi applications. Edgewater’s patented technology mitigates adjacent and co-channel interference to enable multiple, concurrent channels of transmit and receive from a single WiFi standards-compliant radio. Delivering the highest channel density in the industry means fewer access points to deliver the highest Quality of Service (QoS) for users. Traders and Investors,

The chart suggests this play could ready for a major technical move higher.

Before I get into the details, I want you to take a close look at the chart of today's trade idea, Edgewater Wireless Systems, Inc (KPIFF).

Not only does BarChart.com have an overwhelmingly bullish opinion on KPIFF, judging by yesterday's price action, so do many on the Street... and the technical indicators just stack up perfectly.

KPIFF topped out at $0.66 back in December last year, and then retested that level in January, before entering a pullback phase where it sank to a low of around $0.18. It then consolidated at this level for over a month, where it continued to gather strong support and interest.

Over the past few days, the sellers have capitulated and the bulls have finally taken the reigns, as KPIFF has ran from around $0.20 to $0.28 in just a few days. Importantly, it broke through and closed above the 50 day moving average of around $0.25, something it hadn't done since January.

The next target is likely to be the 100 day moving average, which sits at around $0.39 as I write this.

Could we re-test recent highs of $0.66? I'm not making any promises, but it certainly looks possible if KPIFF can take out the 100 day over the next few days.

WIFI3™ solves some important and major issues...

The best solution for High-Density WiFi networks, Edgewater Wireless WiFi3™ powered access point products enable innovative service providers to plan, build and deploy reliable, high-capacity services (like VoWiFI) for high-density & data demand in any environment.

Do more with less! Fewer access points delivering high quality service at a lower overall deployment cost. Make our patented WiFi3™ technology the right choice for your next WiFi network.

With traditional WiFi, most networks were designed based on the ranges delivered by 802.11 standard operating 2.4 GHz protocols for distance and performance. This model worked when everyone was walking around with just one Wi-Fi enabled device.

Fast-forward to today, the average user has 2-3 WiFi enabled devices, all drawing down data from the network and seriously impacting network performance.

Today, network planners have a choice. They can make the jump to 802.11 ac – the “latest” 802.11 standard, which boasts extremely good performance in close proximity but diminishes quickly at distance. This means the jump to 802.11 ac will cost significantly more in building the network because of the additional hardware investment required.

Or (and this is where KPIFF excels), network operators and service providers can leverage Edgewater Wireless WiFi3™ powered solutions to deliver reliable, high-capacity indoor/outdoor WiFi services for high-density environments.

The Advantage of WIFI3™

Enterprises should be optimizing their environments for capacity and managing a high density of users/devices. Where standard WiFi tries to address these issues with more antennas, more access points and beamforming technology, WiFi3™ achieves this using a multi-channel architecture.

KPIFF delivers the highest channel density available on the market today, using Edgewater Wireless patented technology which enables multiple channels on a single chip. This means aggregate output on a single WiFi3™ powered AP will outperform traditional, single channel APs.

Fewer access points delivering higher quality of service can considerably lower the cost of deployments. Remote and rural infrastructure deployments are easily achieved due to the extended network coverage and performance capabilities of WiFi3™. With WiFi3™, customers can deploy a wireless broadband network quickly and cost effectively.
